Philosophy for cultural creatives
Learning to think in context.
In Philosophy for cultural creatives, we explore how sparks of wisdom arose in world cultural heritage, how these impulses spread through the ages and how they might contribute to the future of humanity. On this journey, we encounter a wide range of sources encompassing pure philosophy, practical philosophy, science, religion, spirituality, great novels, fairy tales, works of art, architecture, etc. The criterion for what to include in the course and what to leave out is whether the content is relevant for people living in the 21st century.
Far from being comprehensive, this big picture course aims to raise curiosity and provide content that helps us live more fully and do more useful things.
- Induction to a new education. Induction to transformative education; cultural creatives and their role in society.
- Foundations of world cultural heritage. Myths; Fairytales; Art.
- Fundamentals of philosophical thought, religion and spirituality and fundamentals of philosphical thought in different cultures (e.g., Lao Tse, Confucius, Budhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism).
- National genius and wisdom of Czech thinkers. Given that this course is taught in the Czech Republic, attention is given to Czech culture and some of its greatest scholars up to the 17th century, including Karel IV., Jan Hus, Petr Chelčický, Petr Vok, Jan Amos Komenský.
- Enlightenment and beyond (17th to 20th century) - philosophy, pedagogy, psychology, natural sciences.
- The drama of the 20th century and the Great Transition in the 21st century.
