Sustainable Entrepreneurship
Learn to create and manage sustainable ventures effectively.
This course Sustainable entrepreneurship enables students to discover sustainable entrepreneurship as an academic subject, a practice, and a career option. The course is relevant for all entrepreneurs: those establishing businesses and financial institutions, political entrepreneurs founding movements and parties, people creating NGOs, foundations, religious organisations, think tanks, etc. To understand the “terrain” on which they might operate in the future, students will be introduced to two hierarchies:
1. THE HIERARCHY OF SUSTAINABLE ENTREPRENEURSHIP - in which we address three levels:
- “Entrepreneurship” that is compliant with laws, regulations and good practice in terms of financial, social and environmental sustainability (e.g. CSR, ISO, EMAS);
- “Social entrepreneurship” adds elements such as: altruistic mission; social, cultural and environmental solutions; return to society; next practices; philanthropy; social inclusion; social justice; sustainable community development, etc.;
- “Transformative entrepreneurship” adds an emphasis on transformative change.
Transformative entrepreneurship includes the features of social entrepreneurship, while social entrepreneurship includes the features of entrepreneurship.
